How it works

Open a photo, then drag across each face, name badge, number plate or document you want hidden. Choose pixelate, blur or a solid black box and set the strength. Boxes can be moved and resized with the pointer or the keyboard. When you download, the effect is applied to the full-size image.

Some browsers can find faces on the device. Where that is available, a “Find faces” button appears and runs automatically when you open a photo. Always check the result: automatic detection misses faces in profile, in shadow or far away.

Why it stays private

The photo is opened and changed in this page, on your device. It is not uploaded. The downloaded copy is drawn fresh from pixels, so it carries no camera details or location.

Questions

Which effect is safest?

A black box. Light pixelation and blur can sometimes be partly reversed or recognised, especially on small faces. Use a high strength, or a black box for anything sensitive.

Why don’t I see “Find faces”?

It relies on the browser’s built-in face detector, which most browsers don’t offer yet. Drawing boxes by hand works everywhere.

Does the download keep the original quality?

It keeps the full size. JPEG photos are saved as high-quality JPEG and PNG files stay PNG.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes. Drag with a finger to draw a box, drag inside a box to move it, and drag its corner handle to resize it.
