Screen protection

VaultWell protects against screen capture and hides your content in the app switcher.

What it is

Private photos can leak through the screen as easily as through storage: a screen recording, a screenshot or a glance at the app switcher. VaultWell protects against screen capture and always shows the dark comb, not your content, when the app is in the background.

What to expect

  • When you switch away, the preview in the app switcher is the comb, never a photo or a note.
  • Inside an open vault, VaultWell uses the protections each platform offers against screen capture.
  • On iPhone, the system controls screenshots. If one is taken while a vault is open, VaultWell tells you it was saved to Photos, outside your vault, so you can delete it.

How to use it

There's nothing to turn on. Protection is part of the app. If you share a vault, the same care applies on the recipient's phone inside VaultWell.

How it works under the hood

Each platform offers different tools to apps, and they don't work the same way. VaultWell uses what each platform offers, covers its content whenever it moves to the background, and tells you on iPhone when a screenshot has been taken.

Honest limits

  • No app can stop someone photographing the screen with another camera.
  • On iPhone, VaultWell can't prevent a screenshot; it lets you know when one is taken.
  • Accessibility tools, mirroring and system features you've enabled may behave differently. If in doubt, view sensitive items in private.

Questions

Can I take a screenshot of my own vault?

On iPhone the system allows it, and VaultWell tells you the screenshot is in Photos, outside the vault, so you can delete it.

Does this protect shared copies?

Shared copies open inside VaultWell with the same protection, but someone could still photograph the screen.

Is there a setting for this?

No. It's always on.
