Looking ahead
Roadmap
What VaultWell is planning after release. Ideas we are considering, with no dates and no promises.
VaultWell isn't released yet. This page lists what we're considering after launch. These are ideas, not promises: none of them is available today, and the order may change as we learn from people who use the app.
Ideas we are considering
- In-app camera on iPhone. The Android app already takes photos and videos into a vault. We are checking the iPhone version on a device before we describe it.
- Encrypted cloud backup. Backups kept in a cloud account you control, restorable on iPhone or Android.
- Metadata removal on share. Importing with "Keep originals" off already removes location data from photos. Removing it from shared copies is still planned.
- Panic gestures. Lock and switch to a chosen app with a quick gesture.
- Trusted Wi-Fi auto-lock. Lock when you leave a trusted network. Locking when the screen turns off or the headphones are unplugged is already in the Android app.
- Folders inside vaults.
- Search on your phone. Find items by text or object labels, with the index kept inside the encrypted vault and nothing sent off the phone.
- More than photos and videos. Encrypted notes, documents, passwords and voice memos.
- Self-destruct timers. Delete a single item after a set time, or wipe a vault that hasn't been opened for a set period.
- Nearby transfer. Send a vault from phone to phone, encrypted end to end, without a cloud service.
- A published format. Document the on-disk format and publish test vectors, so anyone can check the encryption.
What we aren't planning yet
We haven't decided on pricing, and there is no subscription. Automatic sync between devices and live shared vaults are ideas we're considering, with no promises. Neither exists today.
Security checks
An independent security audit is planned before release. We'll publish what it covers and what it finds.
